Tip: For overnight shifts, set clock-out earlier than clock-in (e.g., 22:00 → 06:00). The calculator will handle the next day automatically.

Daily overtime is deducted before the weekly threshold is applied, so no hour is paid at the overtime rate twice.

How to use the timecard calculator

  1. Enter your date, clock-in time, and clock-out time for each shift.
  2. Add your break minutes (we’ll subtract them from total hours).
  3. Click Add row for additional days or shifts.
  4. Optionally add an hourly rate and your overtime thresholds — the clock in time calculator then splits regular and overtime hours.
  5. Totals update instantly in the results panel.

How the overtime split works

Under the FLSA, overtime starts after 40 hours in a workweek and is paid at time and a half. A handful of states add a daily threshold on top — California, Alaska and Nevada pay overtime after 8 hours in a single day regardless of the weekly total. This time card calculator with overtime supports both:

  • Overtime after (hours/week) — 40 by default. Set it to 0 to turn the weekly rule off.
  • Overtime after (hours/day) — blank by default. Set it to 8 if a daily rule applies to you.
  • Overtime multiplier — 1.5 for time and a half, 2 for double time.

When both thresholds are set, daily overtime is taken out first and only the remaining straight-time hours are measured against the weekly threshold, so no hour is ever paid at the overtime rate twice. If you only need the pay figure and already know the hours, the overtime calculator does that in one step.

Common use cases

  • Timesheet totals before running payroll
  • Checking a week of hours against the 40-hour overtime line

FAQs

Is this a timecard calculator or a time card calculator?

The same thing — “timecard” and “time card” are both in common use, and this tool covers either spelling. It is also a clocking card calculator in the sense that it adds up punch card entries: rows of clock in and clock out times with breaks deducted.

Is this a time punch in calculator or a clock-out time calculator?

Both. Enter your punch in and punch out times and the tool totals your hours, including breaks. It works as a clock in out calculator and a daily time calculator.

Does the time card calculator handle overtime?

Yes. Set your weekly threshold (40 hours is the federal standard), add a daily threshold if your state has one, and choose the multiplier. The results panel then shows regular hours, overtime hours, and — if you enter an hourly rate — regular pay, overtime pay and gross pay.

Can I calculate clock in and out times for overnight shifts?

Yes. If you clock out after midnight, set the end time earlier than the start time (e.g., 22:00 to 06:00). The time in out calculator detects the next day automatically.

Does this time clock calculator work online on mobile?

Yes, it’s a responsive, free time clock calculator online that works on phones, tablets, and desktops.

How do I subtract breaks?

Enter break time in minutes. The clock out timer subtracts it from your total hours to show net time worked.
