How to count business days between two dates
- Enter the two dates. Reverse order is fine — the calculator sorts them and tells you it did.
- Set the working week. Monday to Friday is selected by default. Tap any day to change it, for a Sunday-to-Thursday week or a four-day week.
- Pick a country for public holidays. Its holidays drop out of the total and are listed by name underneath, so you can check the working rather than trust it.
- Decide whether the end date counts. Exclude it for a plain days-between figure; include it for a deadline.
Working days calculator: what actually counts as a working day
A working day is any day your organisation normally operates. For most of the US and Europe that is Monday to Friday. Across much of the Gulf it is Sunday to Thursday. A growing number of employers run a four-day week. None of those is a special case here — the working week is something you set, not something the tool assumes on your behalf.
The subtler question is the end date. “Days between” the 1st and the 8th is conventionally 7, because the start date is not counted and neither is the last. A notice period or a payment term usually counts the final day. Those two readings differ by one day, which is exactly the kind of difference that turns into a dispute — so the calculator makes it an explicit choice and you can state which rule you applied.
Public holidays are the part most date calculators miss
Nearly every free date calculator online removes weekends and stops there. That is fine for arithmetic and wrong for work. If you are counting a 30-business-day notice period that runs through Christmas, or a 10-day delivery window over Eid, or a probation end date that crosses Diwali, the weekends-only answer is several days out.
This calculator uses the same public holiday data behind ClockIt's public holiday calendars: real national holiday dates, sourced and cross-checked rather than generated from a rule. Coverage here is 16 countries for 2026 and 2027. Dates outside those years still count correctly, weekends and all — they just will not have holidays removed, and the calculator says so rather than quietly giving you a wrong number.
One limitation worth knowing: the lists are national. Holidays observed in a single state, province or emirate are deliberately not merged in, because presenting a Queensland-only day as an Australian national holiday would be worse than leaving it out.
What people use this for
- Notice periods and probation end dates. Thirty business days from a start date, with the holidays that fall inside it named.
- Payment and delivery terms. Net 30 in business days lands on a different date than net 30 in calendar days.
- Leave planning. How many working days a holiday request actually consumes, which is the number that comes off a balance — not the calendar length of the trip.
- Project and payroll deadlines. Counting back from a pay date to the timesheet cut-off.
- Length of service. Days between a start date and today, for tenure, accrual bands or anniversary dates.
When counting days stops being enough
A date calculator answers how many days are in a period. It cannot tell you who worked them. The moment the question becomes how many hours did each person actually work in this period, and what does payroll owe, a calculator is the wrong shape of tool — you need the punches themselves.

What counts as a business day?

Does this calculator account for public holidays?

Should the end date be included in the count?
It depends what you are counting. 'Days between' two dates conventionally excludes the end date — from the 1st to the 8th is 7 days. Deadlines and notice periods usually include it. Both options are available above, so pick the one that matches the rule you are applying, and say which you used if the number matters to someone else.
How do I add 30 business days to a date?
Switch to 'Add or subtract days', enter your starting date and 30, keep the direction on After, and leave the mode on Business days. The calculator steps forward one day at a time, skipping weekends and public holidays, and tells you how many days it skipped to get there.
Why does the answer differ from another date calculator?
Almost always one of three things: whether the end date is included, which days count as working days, or whether public holidays are removed at all. Most online date calculators do weekends only and never mention holidays, which is why they disagree with payroll and HR systems.
