Labour Compliance Guide

Mexico Labour Law

Labor relations in Mexico are governed by the Federal Labor Law (Ley Federal del Trabajo - LFT). It establishes strict limits on working hours shifts (day, night, mixed) and mandates specific overtime compensation rates.

1Maximum Working Hours & Shifts

The LFT defines three shifts: Day (6am-8pm, max 48 hrs/week), Night (8pm-6am, max 42 hrs/week), and Mixed (max 45 hrs/week). Exceeding these limits triggers overtime.

How ClockIt Helps

ClockIt supports shift-based configuration to accurately track hours against the Day, Night, or Mixed shift limits defined by the LFT.

2Overtime Compensation

Overtime is paid at 200% (double) for the first 9 hours per week (max 3 hours/day, 3 times/week). Any hours exceeding 9 per week must be paid at 300% (triple).

How ClockIt Helps

ClockIt automatically calculates overtime at 200% for the first 9 hours and 300% for subsequent hours, removing complex manual payroll calculations.

3Weekly Rest Day

For every six days of work, employees must enjoy at least one day of rest with full pay. If an employee works on their rest day, they are entitled to a 200% premium (double salary) for that day's service.

How ClockIt Helps

ClockIt identifies work performed on scheduled rest days and flags it for the mandatory 200% wage premium.

4Sunday Premium (Prima Dominical)

Employees who work on Sunday as part of their regular schedule are entitled to an additional premium of 25% on top of their regular daily wage (Prima Dominical).

How ClockIt Helps

ClockIt automatically applies the 25% Prima Dominical premium for any shifts logged on Sundays.
